Thanks for the great additional insight on "ignorance is bliss"! I believe the majority of people are in this state and will stay there until something drastic happens in their lives! It is always easier to maintain what is "normal" vs. what is true.

Great write-up! Thanks for the thought provoking words. Each one of us probably identifies with this dilemma; whichever side of the fence we might have been on. Sometims,e we overcome the boundaries, and sometimes we do give in. For the very reasons you cited.

But there is another state of mind that you might want to touch upon- the state of being completely unaware of these boundaries. When our conditioning to certain norms is so strong (remember Pavlov's theory?), we do not even realize that we have been molded into a certain predetermined frame of ideas, beliefs and perception. What remains is an unconditional and constant inertia, as our mind fails to recognize the perimeters of consciousness thrust upon us. I am angling towards the old adage here- "Ignorance is bliss". Is it, really? Not, in my opinion.

Nat, this is great. The layers are intriguing. Its almost as if the charcoal strokes are breaking free of the boundaries, but haven't completely done so (being embedded in the letters still), well, not yet.
A suggestion- is there any way you can have bigger pictures of your work embedded in this page, so there is literally more to see. It would do wonders.

Beautiful, Nat.

Our experience of typography can often be a sterile abstraction. While conveying meaning via form and interplay of positive and negative space, it can lack any outward mark of its creator. Your charcoal overlays shout "I am here" and convey the flesh and blood-ness of the meanings of the words.

Life is a messy and imperfect affair. Abstraction is useful, but only as a lens to help us to understand, accept and more fully embrace the messiness of life.
